Why does my Nail Polish peel?

How do I make my nail varnish stop peeling?

To add to our Help and Advice on Nail Varnish Chipping post, there are other ways in which you can prevent your polish from peeling too soon. As we have mentioned before, lifting of your nail varnish is caused by natural oils in your nails. You can begin the priming process by dipping part of a cotton ball in either alcohol or nail polish remover before applying the nail polish this helps to remove the unnecessary oils. Creative Nail Design's 'Stickey' basecoat acts as a gripping agent containing essential protein and vitamins to prevent peeling and chipping so is definitely worth investing in if nail polish peeling is a recurring issue for you. Alternatively, we stock 'Seche Prep' which is specifically formulated for issues like these!

It should also be mentioned that the more hydrated and healthy your nails, the less likely it is to peel. Here at Candy Nails, we provide an exciting and effective range of nail food for all those nail-related problems! Why not take a look at Jessica's 'Rejuvenation' basecoat for dry nails? Its complex formula drenches thirsty nails, providing them with the much-needed moisture they deserve, restoring them to their natural beauty!

It might also help to file your nails regularly, ensuring that there are no rough or uneven edges around your nails. You may want to try Tweezerman's 'Pedro Ceramic Pocket Nail File'. It's portable, therefore practical, and folds down into a compact-sized packet that keeps the filing surface clean and protected. It's so handy, in fact, that you can also clip it onto your keyring- brilliant!

Likewise, using a nail buffer before applying the basecoat can help achieve a smoother result, minimising the risk of peeling. Here at Candy Nails we have a wide selection of CND buffers on offer which you may want to look at- at £1.99, you can't really go wrong!

It's also important that you not apply more than two coats of nail polish, since a thicker layer is more likely to peel off. Apply a topcoat over your nail polish for added protection and you're all good to dazzle!

Take note of these little things and you're on your way to beautiful, healthy nails! :)
