SECRETS TO QUICK, POLISHED NAILS
We at Candy Nails love our nail polishes- that goes without saying. So it’s not surprising that I can’t step out of the house without wearing polish; but one problem I find is that I have to dash out before my nails are even dry- which means the polish usually smudges while I’m putting my coat or scarf on and that is incredibly frustrating!! But worry not if you find you experience the same problem because I have a tip for you: apply a bit of cuticle oil over your varnish while wet and this will prevent anything from sticking to it- bingo!
Another problem that I’ve recently been having is regarding the consistency of my polish. We all know that varnishes mustn’t be stored in a warm place and some of you may have heard that keeping it in your fridge will help to make it last longer. I can’t say I do that because I can be lazy and want the bottle right by my side once I’ve gotten ready so maybe that’s where I’m going right! But a little birdie told me that you must also avoid shaking your nail polish bottle and instead roll the bottle between your palms- this mixes the polish without causing air bubbles. I’m gonna have to try this and hopefully I’ll see a difference!
How many times have you applied a big blob of nail polish on your nail and hoped that this thick layer meant the process of nail polish application would speed up? Go on, admit it- I’ll admit I’ve done it a lot! But I’ve recently found out that to get the best results, you should apply thin layers of varnish. You should apparently start with a thin layer of basecoat, followed by a thin layer of polish down the middle of the nail then one on the left and one on the right. Then, to achieve the best possible results, you should apply a thin layer of topcoat once you’ve let the first layer of polish dry and repeated the process.
Another easy (and often forgotten) step to longer lasting nails is what’s known as ‘priming’. This is the process of removing any excess oil before applying your nail polish. All you need to do is soak a cotton ball with nail polish remover and wipe each clean nail before the application of nail varnish- easy peasy! It isn’t much to ask but can make all the difference between your polish lasting just an hour to it lasting six hours.
For those of you who have heard that a quick blast of the hair/hand dryer can speed up drying your nails then you’re right- it can. However, it also dulls nail polish, eliminating the level of gloss effect that your polish leaves so I definitely wouldn’t advise using this as a shortcut. You’re probably better off wearing no nail polish at all than doing that!
So there you have it: quick, simple steps to well-groomed, polish nails! ?
